The mala necklace supports you in japa meditation. This meditation technique focuses the mind by reciting mantras. At the same time, the vibration of the mantras is transmitted to the body and creates a resonance. You can use this meditation to manifest something, set a positive intention and thus change your subconscious. The mantra is recited once per bead, i.e. 108 times. The start and end are the guru bead. It is best to repeat this meditation 40 days in a row.
Meditation sequence with your mala necklace:
- Sit down comfortably in a quiet place where you are undisturbed. Hold the mala necklace in your hands and close your eyes. Sit upright and relaxed. Let your breath flow.
- Start reciting your mantra with the first bead after the guru bead.
- Recite your mantra once for each bead, i.e. 108 times in total, until you reach the last bead before the guru bead.
- Hold the bead you are currently on between two fingers.
- If it works for you, combine your breathing with the recitation and breathe in and out once per bead, in rhythm with your mantra.
- When you have recited the mantra 108 times, you can lay down the mala chain and remain in silence for a moment to let the recitation sink in.
- Then you can slowly open your eyes again.
Choose a mantra that feels right for you at the moment. Examples are
- Om: The primal sound, the original word that contains everything within it. This mantra brings body, mind and soul into harmony and symbolises the wholeness of being.
- So ham: Means something like «I am THAT» or «I am who I am». I am neither body nor spirit. I am the immortal self.
- Sat nam: Means «I am truth»
- Aham prema: Means «I am love»
- Om namah shivaya: I bow to Shiva. Shiva here means the divine within yourself.
- Lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu: May everyone in this world be connected, be in harmony and experience happiness.
These are mantras in Sanksrit, the ancient Indian language. Mantras exist in all cultures and languages. They are thought power wrapped in sound. Of course you can also recite a mantra, an affirmation in German or English and set a positive intention, e.g. «I am», «I am» or «I am full of energy».
